H33 brings together an old-world bedroom and a military barracks in a single bed-like scene. Two human bodies are constructed from beds, sleeping bags, crutches, globes, mattresses, duvets and other objects associated with war, movement and intimate space. The military bed, caught in motion against the old-world bed, gives the sculpture an unmistakable sexual dimension. For centuries, wars, colonisation and migration have displaced millions of people and brought populations into contact that might otherwise never have encountered one another. The movement of human bodies thus becomes one of the forces through which cultures, societies and the very idea of national identity have been formed and transformed. H33 approaches identity not as something fixed or biologically self-contained, but as the result of continuous movement, encounter and mixing. The scene itself offers no clear narrative. We do not know who its protagonists are or what preceded their encounter. It could have been an act of violence, but equally an expression of love, desire, or simply an ordinary encounter between two people. The sculpture therefore does not tell a single, specific story. Instead, it points to something that has repeated itself in different forms throughout human history.
