Let There Be Light

The table lamp grows through the tabletop and, through a magnifying glass, illuminates an imaginary map of the world assembled from small fragments of books in different languages and from different cultures. The magnifying glass intensifies the lamp’s light and heat precisely on a fragment of the Book of Genesis, at the passage where light is created. Here, the biblical motif of creation encounters an ordinary human source of light. The lamp becomes a tool of exploration and understanding, while light connects the different ways in which humanity seeks to comprehend the world. Science, philosophy, religion, and art are all united by the need to cross the boundaries of the known and illuminate what still remains hidden.
