Vanitas

Installation

Prague, Roztyly

2014

Vanitas – a classical memento mori with a reference to the allegorical moralities of the Middle Ages and the Baroque about the vanity and transience of the earthly life. Food as a means to preservation of life is combined on one plate with death and decay in a similar fashion to the paintings of Frans Snyders – a pig’s head decorated by vegetables and wine sitting on a set table with headless bodies of turkeys, pheasants, and half-gutted hares dangling over it. A grotesque hyperbole ad absurdum.
