Disillusion – site-specific installation, 6 × 3 × 2 m, scooter and tuk-tuk components, Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka, 2026 Reality, as we perceive it based on our experiences, expectations, and ideas about how it functions, is merely a protective structure — a simplified model of the world constructed in our minds. It is an illusion that gives direction, hope, and order to our fragmented understanding of what happens around us, increasing our chances of survival. The moment reality stops cooperating with what we believed to be true, the pillars of this protective structure begin to collapse. We awaken to the realization that the world and its laws are different from what we had assumed. It is disillusion embodied in the moment of disenchantment after the fall of a myth. Just as illusion is not necessarily a lie, disillusion is not the failure of the world — but rather point zero on the path toward maturity.
