Scene of the Act

The uniting element of virtually all my realisations so far has been working with a specific place. As part of the independent exhibition ‘Scene of the Act’, I approached the UFFO Gallery in the same way and created a self-supporting installation of cuboids placed on the supporting pillars of the gallery. Thanks to their eccentric inclinations and placement upon the pillars, the centres of gravity of the right-angled cuboids are off their axes, making them hold themselves in the air by their own weight. They are not glued or attached in any way. This creates a moment of the pillars’ optical destabilization, or conversely of the whole gallery space’s load bearing capacity, with a partially deconstructive approach. The gallery space is construed from horizontal and vertical lines in right angles, and thanks to the glass walls even blocks of nearby high-rise apartment buildings are visible. The installation plays the role of a constructional intruder, growing through space and introducing movement into it. The individual cuboids are then permeated by the themes of extrusion, fall, ingrowth, and multiplication of load bearing capacity. Another part of the exhibition were also twenty large-scale prints of projects realised in public space.
