Creepy Baby is an anamorphic installation composed of children’s toys, clothing and other objects associated with the world of childhood. The installation reverses the principle of classical anamorphic painting: instead of a perspectivally distorted image, it creates a real spatial composition of thousands of objects that, from a precisely defined viewpoint, resolves into an image that appears two-dimensional. At the same time, the work establishes a principle that later became characteristic of the entire series of anamorphic portraits: the objects are selected not only for their shape, colour and size, but also for their conceptual relationship to the person or subject they depict. In Creepy Baby, this connection is formed by the world of children’s toys and clothing; in portraits of specific individuals, it is later taken up by objects associated with their lives, work, era or values.
